A landscaping company owner and his crew lead at the shop whiteboard reviewing a printed report together, trucks and mowers visible through the open bay door behind them.

A full route is not the same as a profitable one.

Gross margin compares the revenue recorded on a property with the crew time at loaded labor cost, the drive and shop time shared across the day’s visits, and each service’s materials. See it by property, crew, service and week, worst first. It is not your net profit.

One of eleven solutions: Job costing and crew performance

What switching it on adds.

A package is priced by the solutions it names. Switch this one on and you get the list below. Leave it off and the rest of your package keeps working.

  • Gross margin by property, crew, service and week, worst first
  • Revenue against recorded time, loaded labor, travel and materials
  • Revenue per person-hour for each crew
  • Price changes backed by what the work cost, with missing records shown

Without it

Time is still recorded for payroll. Margins and crew performance are not shown.

Recorded, not guessed

Revenue, crew time, labor, travel and materials.

The report uses revenue recorded on the work, crew time at loaded wages and labor burden, drive and shop time shared across each day’s visits, and the materials cost on each service. Look at it by property, crew, service and week, with revenue per person-hour beside each.

Every number depends on what was recorded and on the labor settings you entered. A busy route with no time entries does not become a margin.

Job costing for the season: margin of $3,698, margin by crew, and properties listed worst first with visits, margin and dollars per person-hour.
Demo data: a fictional company's season, by crew and by property.

Worst first

Two properties. One left less after labor.

Two properties can take very different crew time. Comparing the recorded margin shows which one left less after labor and materials, and the next decision is a review of price, scope, crew or route.

Measuring a lawn from a satellite image does not, by itself, tell you the margin improved. The software shows the gap. It does not reprice an account from it.

Before you have records

The worksheet is for assumptions. The report is for what happened.

The crew-profit guide is a worksheet for numbers a visitor types. The job-cost report is the product view of recorded work. Illustrative numbers in either place are not your results.

What it does

  • Compares revenue with recorded time, loaded labor, travel and materials
  • Shows property, crew, service and week, worst first
  • Shares drive and shop time across the day’s visits, and shows it as travel
  • Shows the gap when records are incomplete

What stays with your team

  • Net profit. Overhead you did not record stays outside it
  • A benchmark. There is no published one
  • Repricing. The software never changes a price for you
  • Time nobody clocked. It shows as a gap, not a guess

Before you buy

What has to be agreed first

This page describes the capability. It does not put every module, unlimited texting, ad management or a custom software project into an unnamed price. Your package names what is included, what we set up with you, and which provider or usage charges sit outside it.

Questions

Questions owners ask

Short answers to what owners ask before they send a request. Anything missing goes in your request, and we reply by email.

What has to be recorded before a margin exists?

Revenue on the job, crew time on the clock, the loaded wage or labor burden you configured, and a materials cost on each service. A visit nobody clocked shows as a gap, not a cost.

Is gross margin the same as profit?

No. Gross job margin is revenue minus those recorded costs. It is not net profit and it is not a full profit-and-loss statement. Overhead you did not record on the job is still outside it.

How does travel get in?

Paid drive and shop time on a crew member’s clock that day is shared across the visits they worked, in proportion to their time at each, at the same loaded rate. Time on a day with no visit to carry it is shown separately, outside the margin.

Where do materials come from?

Each service can carry a materials cost per visit, set in your services. A service without one is listed, so a missing figure is never counted as zero cost by mistake.

Can we compare crews?

Yes, from the time and cost recorded for each crew. The comparison is only as complete as those entries.

What if the records are incomplete?

The report shows the gap instead of filling it. Incomplete time or a missing material does not become a trustworthy margin, and the software will not reprice the account from it.
